why are you leaving

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ وَأَنْتِ لِلْعُمْرِ ضِيَاْء ٌ

why are you leaving and you are my sunshine

بَلْ بَهَاْءٌ

no, you are the bright

بَلْ حَنِيْنْ

you are the one i crave for

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

يَاْ صَفَاْءَ الطُّهْرِ

oh purity

فِيْ زَمَنٍ تَغَيَّرَ وَصْفُهُ

in a changeable time

وَالحَاْلُ فِيْهِ تَاْئِهٌ

everything in it is deeply lost

غَيَّرْنَاْ فِيْهِ لِلْحَقَاْئِقِ

we changed its reality

طَبْعَاً حَطَّمْنَاْ القَوَاْنِيْنَ !

of course, we destroyed the rules,

أَضْحَيْنَاْ نَرْفَعُ الرِّجْلَ لِلْأَعْلَىْ

we started to raise our legs high

وَبِالثَرَىْ نُخْنِعُ الجَبِيِنْ

and dumped our heads in soil.

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

وَأَنْتِ شَمْعَةُ النُّوْرِ

you are the candle's red light

زَهْرَةُ البُسْتَاْنِ

حَبَّةُ الرُّمَّاْنِ

pomegranate grain

شَجْرَةُ الزَّيْتُوْنِ

olive tree!!

لا

no

بَلْ

you are

أَنْتِ زَهْرُ اليَاْسَمِينْ

the Jasmine's blossom

why are you leaving

وَتَتْرُكِيْ الأَلَمَ الدَّفِيْنَ

and leave the burried pain

وَتَشْتَكِيْ

and complain

هَمَّ الغُزَاْةِ الطَّاْمِعِيْن

concerns of the greedy oppressors

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

وَقَدْ زَرَعْتِ عَلَىْ الخُدُوْدِ

you sowed on the cheecks

دَمْعَةً

a tear

وَشَجَرَةً

a tree

جُذُوْرَهَاْ فِيْ الصَّدْرِ

its roots in the chest

آهَاْتِ الأَنِينْ

echos of pain

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

أَمِنْ ضَعْفُنَاْ؟!

Is it our feebility

أَمْ نَوْمُنَاْ ؟

or our sleepness

أَوْ حُزْنُكِ عَلَىْ دُمُوْعِنَاْ

or your grief on our tears

أَمْ ارْتَوَيْتِ مِنْ دِمَاءِ أَطْفَاْلِنَاْ ؟!

or had enough from our kids' blood

وَلَمْ يَهُنْ عَلَيْكِ إنَّنَا بِْبَاْئِسِينْ

It didn't affect you we were miserables

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

يَاْ عَجُوْزاً غَطَّىْ رَأْسَهَاْ الثَلْجُ

oh, grey-haired woman, covered with snow

حَوَتْ بِدَاْخِلِهَاْ مَسْرَىْ النَّبِيِّ

contained within her the prophet's walking

وَأَفْسَحَتْ فِيْ القَلْبِ مُتَّسَعٌ

and opened a space in the heart

لِكُلِّ الأَنْبِيَاْءِ وَالمُرْسَلِينْ

to all prophets and god sent persons

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

يَاْ آيَةً فِيْ القُرْآنِ تُتْلَىْ

Oh verses of the holy Quran read

يَاْ مَسْقَطَ رَأَسِ المَسِيْحِ

oh , homeland of prophet Jesus

يَاْ قِبْلَةً أُوْلَىْ

oh, Moslims holly place

صَلَّىْ إليْهَاْ جَمْعُنَاْ

we all prayed for

وَسَاْرَتْ إليكِ فِيْ القِدَمِ

and walked towards you in olden time

خُطَىْ

steps

كَاْنَتْ خُطَىْ المُؤْمِنِينْ

the steps of believers

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

وَتَتْرُكِيْ مِلْيَاْرَاً مِنَ العَرَبِ

and cast aside billions of Arabs

يُوَاْرِيْ الوَجّْهَ مِنَ الغَرْبِ

hide their faces from the West

سَطِّرْ أَيُّهَاْ التَاْرِيْخُ

write down, oh history

سَطِّرْ إِنَّنَاْ بِخَاْئِنِينْ

write down.. we are traitors

why are you leaving

وَمِنْ تُرَاْبِكِ رِيْحُ المِسْكِ

we smell your prescious ground odour

عَطَّرَهُ دَمُ الشُرَفَاْءِ

it's fragrance the blood of martyrs

لِتَرْوِيْ الظَمَأَ

to water those thirsty

وَلَمْ تَرْتَوِيْ .

still.. not had enough

دِمَاْؤُهُمْ تَرْوِيْ ظَمَأَ الظَاْمِئِين

ْ their blood waters those thirsty

why are you leaving

وَنَحْنُ خَلْفَكِ

we are behind you

نَبْحَثُ

searching

نُفَتِّشُ

looking for

عَلَىْ حَفْنَةِ تُرَاْبٍ

a handfull of soil

وَقَطْرَةِ مَاْءٍ

a drop of water

نَجْبِلُهَاْ

we mix together

لِتَصْبِحَ طِفْلَاً

to become a child

مِنْ بَعْدِ طِينْ

after being mud

why are you leaving

وَفِيْ ثَرَاْكِ آلافٌ مُؤَلَفَةٌ

and in your soil thousands and thousands

مِنْ الشُهَدَاْءِ

of martyrs

مِنْ الأَبْرَاْر

of clean good hearted persons

مِنْ الأَطْهَاْرِ

of pure persons

بِبَطْنِ تُرَاْبِكِ تَحْتَوِينْ

within your soil you contain

why are you leaving

بَعْدَ أَنْ ذَهَبَ النَقَاْءُ

after purity has gone

وَضَاَعَ الصَفَاْءُ

serenity was lost

وَعَدِمَ الإِخْلَاْصُ

no dedication

وَبَقِيَ العَفَاْرِيْتُ يُعَفْرِتُوْنَ

while rascals play their deeds

وَيُنْجِبُون جِنَّاً

and give birth to a genie

وَيُنْجِبُوُن

and give birth

الشَّيَاْطِينْ

to devils

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ ؟

why are you leaving

أَتَرْفُضِيْنَ لِذَاَكَ الظُلْمِ ؟

Are you refusing that oppression

أَتَهْرُبِيْنَ مِنَ القَدَرِ؟

are you running away from your fate

أَمْ أَنَّكِ عَلَىْ اِسْمِكِ تُحَاْفِظِينْ ؟

or are you keepng your name clean

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ يَاْ فِلَسْطِيْنُ لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنَ

Why are you leaving oh Palestine Why are you leaving

لِمَ تَرْحَلِيْنْ ؟
why are you leaving
